Matthew Compton
Regional Care Coordinator | Simi Valley, CA
In my life, hemophilia has been both - a hardship
and a blessing. I was diagnosed at birth with severe Hemophilia
A and acquired an inhibitor by the time I was 10 months old. I struggled
greatly after two inter-cranial bleeds and almost continuous bleeding
into my knees, which left me confined to a wheelchair for a couple
of years. Today, it is difficult for me to stand or walk more than
15 or 20 minutes without my knees hurting.
In spite of the hardships, I am blessed to have
hemophilia because of all the experiences I have had and because
of the truly awesome people I have met along the way. Of course,
I have wished that someone could snap their fingers and make it
go away, but I know that my character has been built upon the difficulties
I have endured.
In Matrix, I found a home care
company and an employer that shared my same goals and ideas of what
homecare should be about. I am proud to be a part of the Matrix
family. I continue to seek out those in the bleeding disorder community
so that I can try, in some way, to make a positive difference in
their lives.
