Melissa Alonso
Executive Assistant | Weston, FL
In my position as Executive Assistant, I am responsible for many of the day-to-day operations at the Corporate office. Outside of my position at Matrix Health, I keep very busy with my young son, Chase. Although there is no family history of hemophilia, he was diagnosed with Factor IX deficiency at birth. Initially, I was afraid to hold him, even to touch him. I thought I might have done something wrong while I was pregnant. However, through the guidance of the treatment center staff, I began to understand my son's diagnosis. Since his birth, I have learned so much - about hemophilia and life. Hemophilia has taught me to have more compassion in my life. I understand things so much differently now. Life and love are about giving and taking. I have done my share of taking, and now it's my turn to give.
Families with bleeding disorders all have a story to share. I am dedicated to this job not only because of my son, but because something about this community takes a hold of you emotionally. I want to be there … to hold the hand of another young mother.
